A Weekend at Country Fest, Crooklands 2023

Earlier this month we were excited to exhibit at Country Fest, Crooklands 2023.

Celebrating all things relating to rural life, the show was a fun-filled weekend for all the family.  With everything from kites and vehicle displays, arena demonstrations and competitions, animals including giant tortoises, sheep, rabbits, ferrets, and Shetland ponies, plus an array of performers on the bandstand throughout the weekend. Now in its 15th year, the two-day show was held at the Westmorland County Showground, Crooklands, near Kendal.

We joined artisan producers, local businesses, and craftspeople from across the region, many with stands in the dedicated food hall, shopping and craft marquees or the vintage emporium.  We enjoyed chatting with the public about our range of decorating services and joined fellow traders and visitors in consuming copious amounts of ice-cream as the sun shone all weekend.

We caught up with fellow craftsman, cabinet maker and furniture restorer Stuart Williams,

Church’s Alabastine Filler - an interesting find from the Vintage Revival fair – well, for me any way!

Spotted by eagle-eyed artist and dance teacher, Anthony Padgett, who brought it to our attention and introduced us to its previous owner, retired architect, Roger Haigh, an interesting and knowledgeable chap. We had a good chat with Roger about heritage decorating and products used over the years.

After the show, Roger sent us photos of some old Anaglypta from his office (I just can’t help myself when it comes to discovering vintage designs still around, this one is c.1908).

All in all, a great weekend at Country Fest Crooklands.

Next on the horizon for us is exhibiting at Design Central UK - North West, an unmissable inspirational interiors trade event bringing hundreds of unique and bespoke products and leading interior brands to our region. The event will be held at Capesthorne Hall, Cheshire on September 26th-27th.

I’m privileged to be invited to give a talk about my heritage decorating and on-going restoration work. I’ll also be sharing what we’ve discovered as we delved into the history of some incredibly beautiful wallcoverings, and highlight some prominent designers behind them.

Until next time,

Frank and Amanda
